Dan choreographed and co-directed the acclaimed UBU SINGS UBU with Tony Torn (Abrons, Slipper Room, American Rep, BB King\u2019s, Highline Ballroom). His work as a choreographer has been at BAM, DTW, Danspace, Ash Lawn Opera, and many other places. In 2011, he choreographed Stravinsky\u2019s RITE OF SPRING for Philadelphia Orchestra with Obie-winners Ridge Theater. Artforum Magazine called him \u201cpure expressionistic danger\u201d and Time Out NY called him \u201ca purveyor of lo-fi mayhem.\u201d With Witness Relocation, his work has been seen internationally in France at Theatre de Chaillot, Paris, Les Subsistances, Lyon, and Le Quartz, Brest; in Poland at the Manggha Museum, Krakow and the Silesian Dance Theater Festival, Bytom; in Russia at the Open Look Festival, St. Petersburg; in Romania at Man.in.Fest, Cluj-Napoca; in Canada at the Dancing On The Edge Festival in Vancouver, BC; and in Thailand at Patravadi Theater, Bangkok. Currently, Dan is faculty at MIT. He used to be a go-go dancer, and once choreographed the Queen of Thailand\u2019s Birthday Party.<\/p>\n

In this workshop we will explore techniques that blur the line between dance and theater, generating material based in the physical and discovering the inherent dramatic content. Our work will focus on what is happening inn the room in front of us and with us, allowing our process to be one of discovery, letting the work tell us what it wants us to be, instead of us imposing a predetermined plan on what we make.
