Jonathan Walters: is co-directing THE FANTASTICKS, and performing as the Mute in the musical. Jonathan Walters founded the ensemble theatre company Hand2Mouth in 2000, after beginning his career in Poland. Hand2Mouth is an ArtsHub Company in Residence at Artists Repertory Theatre in Portland, Oregon. As Hand2Mouth’s Artistic Director, Jonathan has co-conceived, co-created, and directed the bulk of Hand2Mouth shows, and works closely with guest writers and the ensemble to develop original devised theatre work.
Vin Shambry: playing El Gallo in THE FANTASTICKS is a Resident Artist at Artists Repertory Theatre. Vin is a Published writer, acclaimed storyteller, International actor, and Director. Vin has a BFA in Musical Theatre from the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in NYC (2005). Vin is an accomplished writer and acclaimed live storyteller whose work can be heard on The Moth podcast and PDX Back Fence. He is currently working on a collection of short stories about his childhood.
Josie Seid: She is active in several aspects of the theater working as an actor/singer, director, playwright and teacher/coach of character development for acting and short playwriting. As an actor, Josie has appeared in several shows regionally to include, Jack’s Mother in Into the Woods, the ensemble of Hairspray and Trix the Aviatrix all with Broadway Rose. She also brought Lola to life in the world premiere Cottonwood in the Flood as part of the Vanport Mosiac Festival. Josie is a member of the LineStorm Playwrights collective and in has produced several works in partnership.

Students of all skill levels will enjoy a plunge into physical and movement actor-skill building; instructed by three accomplished American theatre artists who will be performing THE FANTASTICKS at CIFCET.
This three-hour workshop will help theatre artists create powerful performances, and increase their connection with other actors on stage. The techniques come from a blend of physical and experimental theatre this training helps build stage presence, boosts performer confidence, and increases awareness and spontaneity within their future theatre work.
Class is good for acting students, directors, designers and dramaturgs. Observers welcome. Please bring comfortable clothes to move in.
This class does not require fluency in English.

Biographies:
Susannah Mars: is a nationally recognized actress and singer who makes her home in the Pacific Northwest. She is the host of Artslandia’s Adventures in Artslandia. A lifelong performing artist, Ms. Mars has appeared in over one hundred productions, concerts and television shows, including, most recently, at Portland Opera where she was Mrs. Lovett in Sweeny Todd. She has appeared as Eva in Evita, Margaret in The Light In The Piazza, Mistress Hibbins in Scarlet, and was Golde in and others.
Eric Little: is a pianist, singer, and actor. He began his musical studies on piano at the age of five, having grown up with his grandparents upright and his mother’s collection of classical music recordings. Alongside classical music he has also performed in theatre from a young age. He studied music at St. Olaf College, where he sang with the St. Olaf Choir for three years. He has since worked many theatre companies, including Portland Center Stage (Fun Home – Conductor, Sweeney Todd – Tobias, Last Five Years – Pianist), Portland Playhouse (Christmas Carol – Music Director, Actor), Artists Repertory Theatre (Next to Normal – Conductor) Portland Opera (Showboat and The Italian Girl in Algiers – Principal Accompanist), and Broadway Rose (Into the Woods – The Baker, The Drowsy Chaperone – Conductor).
Katrina Galka: Ms. Galka is a three-time regional award winner in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions. She is a first-place winner of the Mario Lanza Scholarship and has received further awards from the National Opera Association Vocal Competition, Marcello Giordani International Vocal Competition, and the Heida Hermanns International Vocal Competition. She is also a Level I YoungArts award winner in Musical Theater. She holds a Master of Music from Boston University and earned a Bachelor of Music from Southern Methodist University, from which she graduated summa cum laude.

Students of all skill levels will enjoy three hours of intense study with some of American Music Theatre’s best, and will focus on style, technique, and performance quality with instructors who will be performing THE FANTASTICKS at CIFCET.

He is a founding member/resident designer of Witness Relocation Company and was nominated for a New York Innovative Theater Award for his lighting of Dancing vs The Rat Experiment with WRC. He is a Senior Designer at Levy Lighting in NYC, designing lights for many high end wedding, Bar Mitzvahs, fashion shows, corporate product launches and private parties. He has been awarded an Obie with Big Dance Theater and the Eva Adamson award for Excellence in Lighting Design as well as three Phoebes Awards for Lighting (Richmond VA Critics’ award). Introduction to Lighting – Using a hands on approach we will spend time creating a miniature lighting plot. Spending time working with the different lighting units to understand which light is best used in a given situation.

The Design Process – Covers the entire cycle of creating a design, from accepting a job, reading the script, meeting with the director and the design team, creating a design concept and finally to the realized design on opening night.

– Biography: Peter Eckersall is Professor of Theatre and Performance and Executive Officer of the PhD Program in Theatre and Performance at the Graduate Centre, City University of New York. He is an Honorary Professorial Fellow in the department of Culture and Communication, University of Melbourne.
– Workshop’s title: Dramaturgy Workshop
– About the Workshop: Dramaturgy is a critical process in and for devising contemporary performance. A transformative artistic practice bridges ideas, themes and politics and considers how these can be communicated and represented in and through the medium of performance. In addition, as a concept and a practice – and dramaturgy blurs these distinctions – it often extends beyond the scope of composition in theatre and is applied to a diversity of artistic practices and media as well as social activities and the everyday. Hence, we can talk about the dramaturgy of political campaigns, of sporting events, religious gatherings, concerts, lectures, media campaigns, exhibitions, urban spaces and so on.
Lecture and workshop plan
This workshop will introduce the European understanding of dramaturgy and consider if and how it might relate to contemporary theatre and performance making in the world today. It will consider three primary questions:
What is dramaturgy?
How does it relate to what I do as a performing artist?
In what way is contemporary theatre always dramaturgical?
I propose a series of lectures and workshops over four or five days to introduce, debate and evaluate these questions, initially from the perspective of international practice and then in relation to the local. My workshop will begin with this understanding that to think dramaturgically is to think about making work from the point of view of structure and form.
The workshop will use a variety of ways to explore questions about dramaturgy including: lecture-presentations; discussion groups and break-out sessions and, most important, practice-based exercises. We will explore dramaturgy through thinking and doing.
Please note: we will explain many terms in the workshop. For now, please know that the terms theatre and performance are interchangeable and include all aspects of the performing arts: drama, performance arts, traditional theatres, dance, etc.

عن الورشة: هي ورشة للرقص الافريقي المنصهر مع رقصات أخرى.تستهدف هذه الورشة مختلف فئات المجتمع سواء كانو راقصين أو من غير الراقصين ممن لديهم شغف بالرقصات الإفريقية التقليدية التي انصهرت مع مناحي المدنية المعاصرة وشكلت الرقص التجريبي المسرحي الذي يحكي قصص للمتفرج . تؤكد الورشة على معاني الاعتداد بالنفس، كما أنها تنمي المهارات والمعارف حول فن الرقص كأداة لإحداث تغيير إيجابي في المجتمع

Ismail started his professional career as a teacher and dancer since 2015 at blackice dance company projects, lnmotion dance studios/cheza fitness, Galaxy dance project Uganda. He is specialized in various dance styles like Ugandan Traditional Dances, Contemporary dance, House, Hiphop and Breakdance but with high versatile to incorporate all the styles. Ismail collaborates with both local and international artists of different disciplines, world organizations and companies, as one of the greatest significant advancement in his career.

Kumbe means awareness in one of the Ugandan native language, the project was established and led by collective individuals involving Jingo ismail as well as collaborating with visiting artists in residency and local artists under the supervision of Blackice Dance Company.

It’s a community afro fusion dance workshop invented for all categories of people either dancer or not a dancer who are interested in African traditional dances fused with urban contemporary aspects and also passionate in experimental dance theatre to tell stories. The workshop emphasizes self-esteem building, widen your skills and knowledge about art of dance as a tool for positive social change in the community. The workshop consists dialogue session that converges people of different consciousness capacity to share their life experience as a way of creating strong connection and also having fun.

– About the Workshop: This work aim is to find the balance of organic and inorganic ; personal emotions and static existence. As a performer , it is very important to control your body and mind as mutual as possible , in order to adjust yourself to the performance. This workshop is a practice that takes ideas of controlling your body and mind as well as exploring spacial awareness. Its the creative process ,that Chiemi has been using lately to find and create the scenarios of the space and body . Going to a particular region-area that has some connection to oneself ( ex, area of your life, where your parents were born ) and finding the connection of memory that you have and the memory of the space. – Biography: is Artistic Director of Witness Relocation and has directed/ choreographed all of their shows, ranging from fully scripted plays to original dance/theater pieces to many things in between. Dan choreographed and co-directed the acclaimed UBU SINGS UBU with Tony Torn (Abrons, Slipper Room, American Rep, BB King’s, Highline Ballroom). His work as a choreographer has been at BAM, DTW, Danspace, Ash Lawn Opera, and many other places. In 2011, he choreographed Stravinsky’s RITE OF SPRING for Philadelphia Orchestra with Obie-winners Ridge Theater. Artforum Magazine called him “pure expressionistic danger” and Time Out NY called him “a purveyor of lo-fi mayhem.” With Witness Relocation, his work has been seen internationally in France at Theatre de Chaillot, Paris, Les Subsistances, Lyon, and Le Quartz, Brest; in Poland at the Manggha Museum, Krakow and the Silesian Dance Theater Festival, Bytom; in Russia at the Open Look Festival, St. Petersburg; in Romania at Man.in.Fest, Cluj-Napoca; in Canada at the Dancing On The Edge Festival in Vancouver, BC; and in Thailand at Patravadi Theater, Bangkok. Currently, Dan is faculty at MIT. He used to be a go-go dancer, and once choreographed the Queen of Thailand’s Birthday Party.

In this workshop we will explore techniques that blur the line between dance and theater, generating material based in the physical and discovering the inherent dramatic content. Our work will focus on what is happening inn the room in front of us and with us, allowing our process to be one of discovery, letting the work tell us what it wants us to be, instead of us imposing a predetermined plan on what we make. Participants should come prepared to move and dive right in.

عن الورشة:
حين نتحدث عن الشعر ، فإننا نتحدث عن الحقيقة . و الحقيقة على المسرح هي حين نعيش موقفا ما بكامل مشاعرنا بكل إخلاص دون أن نأبه لأية قيود جسدية أو صوتية . و حين تتوافر الحقيقة، يدخل المتفرج في حالة تركيزعميقة مع الممثل ويستقبل كل انفعالاته ومشاعره مما يحمس الممثل و يؤجج روحه.
هي إذن حالة متبادلة بين الممثل والمتفرج ونطلق عليها اسم الحالة لأنها تعني الشغف، حالة من الدراما الداخلية التي تتسم بالحيوية وتبعد تماما عن الزيف وبفضل عمل سباستيان في مسرح الشمس استطاع أن يطور تكنيك الوصول للحقيقة عبر الجسد من خلال هذه الأساليب ، ومن خلال التخلص من قلق التحرك على المسرح، سنصل الى التركيز في الرؤية والسمع وبالتالي الإحساس

– Biography: After getting a master of Study of Cinematography at University Lumière Lyon II, Sébastien started learning about theatre in the drama school of Anne Sicco “l’Oeil du Silence” in 1998. During two years, he learnt the principle of biomechanic. He also attended numbers of workshops like, mime with Marcel Marceau, and Art of Kyogen with Master Shime Shigeyama.
Sébastien has started to play as a professional actor from 2000 in “Hamlet” and “Romeo and Juliet” of Shakespeare, “Freedom in Bremen” of Fassbinder. He also played in some short movies. He has became an actor of Théâtre du Soleil directed by Ariane Mnouchkine.
He has participates in the last four collective creations of Théâtre du Soleil and plays all around the world. He is now since 2016 in the new production of Théâtre du Soleil, « Une chambre en Inde », In 2018, he directed his first show « As Irmas Siamesas » (The siamese sisters) from Jose Rubens Siqueira in Sao Paulo. Since 2015, is also actor/helper on the workshop directed by Ariane Mnouchkine « the nomade school of Théâtre du Soleil » wich was given in Chili, Sweden and India. Beside his work as an actor, Sébastien also works as assistant director in France and in Brazil. Starting from 2011, he holds the workshop “The Poetic Body”, which is inspired by his own experience of acting, creating and teaching. This workshop has already been given in Brazil, France, Taiwan, Hong-Kong and Macao.
– About the Workshop: When I talk about poetry, I want to talk about verity. The theatrical verity is when we live a situation, totally, sincerely, without caring about the special, physical or vocal constraint. If there is a verity, the audience enter into emphases with the actor and receive the emotions, which animate the actor. It is not only by the actor but also by those who watch relieve a lively poetry from this verity. We call this a status (a state). That means a passion, an internal drama, which is lively and not spurious. Unfortunately, sometime it is difficult to accede to this status in improvisation. We ask ourselves, “how should I react to what my partner did or said?”, “how should i place myself?”, “I have decided my character a draft, I have to stay in my position”…
We are filled up with an interior discourse, which distorts the perception of the trueness, preconceived ideas which impose to ourselves and stop us to listen to others and true self. For this, thanks to my experience in Theater du Soleil, i have developed a personal technique of searching the verity by using the body. With this corporal exercises, we can accede to the verity. We get rid of, for example, the visual sense, to learn how to be aware of others near you, and to trust them. We get rid of the stress of moving, letting the other to manipulate us and guide us. There is just the concentration of seeing, listening, and so sensing.Thus we always at the same point: sense.Felling the verity, the true emotion submerge us. Our body become lively, a poetic body.
PROGRAMME:
Day 1: Physical training based on the suspension, immobility, opposition and separation for composing to search the extreme status and practice with an improvising them.
Day 2: Practice the art of manipulation of the body like a puppet and improvise with guidance.
Day 3: Using of the music as a support of emotion. Learn to listen and be guided by the sentiment given from the music. The musical rhythm becomes the body’s rhythm. Practice with improvisation on the given music.

Dan choreographed and co-directed the acclaimed UBU SINGS UBU with Tony Torn (Abrons, Slipper Room, American Rep, BB King’s, Highline Ballroom). His work as a choreographer has been at BAM, DTW, Danspace, Ash Lawn Opera, and many other places. In 2011, he choreographed Stravinsky’s RITE OF SPRING for Philadelphia Orchestra with Obie-winners Ridge Theater. Artforum Magazine called him “pure expressionistic danger” and Time Out NY called him “a purveyor of lo-fi mayhem.” With Witness Relocation, his work has been seen internationally in France at Theatre de Chaillot, Paris, Les Subsistances, Lyon, and Le Quartz, Brest; in Poland at the Manggha Museum, Krakow and the Silesian Dance Theater Festival, Bytom; in Russia at the Open Look Festival, St. Petersburg; in Romania at Man.in.Fest, Cluj-Napoca; in Canada at the Dancing On The Edge Festival in Vancouver, BC; and in Thailand at Patravadi Theater, Bangkok. As a performer , it is very important to control your body and mind as mutual as possible , in order to adjust yourself to the performance. This workshop is a practice that takes ideas of controlling your body and mind as well as exploring spacial awareness. Its the creative process ,that Chiemi has been using lately to find and create the scenarios of the space and body . Ismail presents his talent on many stages worldwide Ismail started his professional career as a teacher and dancer since 2015 at blackice dance company projects, lnmotion dance studios/cheza fitness, Galaxy dance project Uganda. He is specialized in various dance styles like Ugandan Traditional Dances, Contemporary dance, House, Hiphop and Breakdance but with high versatile to incorporate all the styles. Ismail collaborates with both local and international artists of different disciplines, world organizations and companies, as one of the greatest significant advancement in his career. Workshop’s title: Kumbe Arts Project About the Workshop Kumbe means awareness in one of the Ugandan native language, the project was established and led by collective individuals involving Jingo ismail as well as collaborating with visiting artists in residency and local artists under the supervision of Blackice Dance Company. He is an Honorary Professorial Fellow in the department of Culture and Communication, University of Melbourne. – Workshop’s title: Dramaturgy Workshop – About the Workshop: Dramaturgy is a critical process in and for devising contemporary performance. A transformative artistic practice bridges ideas, themes and politics and considers how these can be communicated and represented in and through the medium of performance. In addition, as a concept and a practice – and dramaturgy blurs these distinctions – it often extends beyond the scope of composition in theatre and is applied to a diversity of artistic practices and media as well as social activities and the everyday. Hence, we can talk about the dramaturgy of political campaigns, of sporting events, religious gatherings, concerts, lectures, media campaigns, exhibitions, urban spaces and so on. Lecture and workshop plan This workshop will introduce the European understanding of dramaturgy and consider if and how it might relate to contemporary theatre and performance making in the world today. It will consider three primary questions: What is dramaturgy? How does it relate to what I do as a performing artist? In what way is contemporary theatre always dramaturgical? I propose a series of lectures and workshops over four or five days to introduce, debate and evaluate these questions, initially from the perspective of international practice and then in relation to the local. My workshop will begin with this understanding that to think dramaturgically is to think about making work from the point of view of structure and form. The workshop will use a variety of ways to explore questions about dramaturgy including: lecture-presentations; discussion groups and break-out sessions and, most important, practice-based exercises. He has been awarded an Obie with Big Dance Theater and the Eva Adamson award for Excellence in Lighting Design as well as three Phoebes Awards for Lighting (Richmond VA Critics’ award). He was Resident Lighting Designer at Dance Theater Workshop (DTW) for 11 years, designing lights for 100’s of works. As an educator he has taught as an Adjunct Professor at MSU and Brooklyn College, a Visiting Assistant Professor at Dickinson College and Visiting Assistant Professor of Design at Illinois Wesleyan University. He continues enjoying a variety of rich collaborations with many wonderful artists. Workshop’s title: Lighting Workshop About the Workshop This workshop will explore a variety of topics Introduction to Lighting – Using a hands on approach we will spend time creating a miniature lighting plot. Spending time working with the different lighting units to understand which light is best used in a given situation. Basic Lighting Concepts – we will explore the language of lighting, the function of lighting design, the different types of lighting instruments and the goals of a good design The Design Process – Covers the entire cycle of creating a design, from accepting a job, reading the script, meeting with the director and the design team, creating a design concept and finally to the realized design on opening night. The Psychology of Color – Explores the use of color as a story telling language. She is the host of Artslandia’s Adventures in Artslandia. A lifelong performing artist, Ms. Mars has appeared in over one hundred productions, concerts and television shows, including, most recently, at Portland Opera where she was Mrs. Lovett in Sweeny Todd. She has appeared as Eva in Evita, Margaret in The Light In The Piazza, Mistress Hibbins in Scarlet, and was Golde in and others. Eric Little: is a pianist, singer, and actor. He began his musical studies on piano at the age of five, having grown up with his grandparents upright and his mother’s collection of classical music recordings. Alongside classical music he has also performed in theatre from a young age. He studied music at St. Olaf College, where he sang with the St. Olaf Choir for three years. He has since worked many theatre companies, including Portland Center Stage (Fun Home – Conductor, Sweeney Todd – Tobias, Last Five Years – Pianist), Portland Playhouse (Christmas Carol – Music Director, Actor), Artists Repertory Theatre (Next to Normal – Conductor) Portland Opera (Showboat and The Italian Girl in Algiers – Principal Accompanist), and Broadway Rose (Into the Woods – The Baker, The Drowsy Chaperone – Conductor). Katrina Galka: Ms. Galka is a three-time regional award winner in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions. She is also a Level I YoungArts award winner in Musical Theater. Jonathan Walters founded the ensemble theatre company Hand2Mouth in 2000, after beginning his career in Poland. Hand2Mouth is an ArtsHub Company in Residence at Artists Repertory Theatre in Portland, Oregon. As Hand2Mouth’s Artistic Director, Jonathan has co-conceived, co-created, and directed the bulk of Hand2Mouth shows, and works closely with guest writers and the ensemble to develop original devised theatre work. Vin Shambry: playing El Gallo in THE FANTASTICKS is a Resident Artist at Artists Repertory Theatre. Vin is a Published writer, acclaimed storyteller, International actor, and Director. Vin has a BFA in Musical Theatre from the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in NYC (2005). Vin is an accomplished writer and acclaimed live storyteller whose work can be heard on The Moth podcast and PDX Back Fence. He is currently working on a collection of short stories about his childhood. Josie Seid: She is active in several aspects of the theater working as an actor/singer, director, playwright and teacher/coach of character development for acting and short playwriting. As an actor, Josie has appeared in several shows regionally to include, Jack’s Mother in Into the Woods, the ensemble of Hairspray and Trix the Aviatrix all with Broadway Rose. She also brought Lola to life in the world premiere Cottonwood in the Flood as part of the Vanport Mosiac Festival. Josie is a member of the LineStorm Playwrights collective and in has produced several works in partnership. – Workshop’s title: A master Class and a Workshop on Acting, Movement and Performance – About the Workshop: Students of all skill levels will enjoy a plunge into physical and movement actor-skill building; instructed by three accomplished American theatre artists who will be performing THE FANTASTICKS at CIFCET. The techniques come from a blend of physical and experimental theatre this training helps build stage presence, boosts performer confidence, and increases awareness and spontaneity within their future theatre work.
